Eight-time Obie Award winner\u00a0David Greenspan<\/a> will star in\u00a0The\u00a0Invention of Love\u00a0Off-Broadway next month.\u00a0Zachary Elkind will direct the rarely-staged\u00a0Tom Stoppard<\/a> play at Theaterlab, where it will run September 17-October 3. An official opening night will be held September 20.<\/p>\n

The Invention of Love<\/a>\u00a0follows poet and scholar A.E.\u00a0Housman at the turn of the century, as Oscar Wilde<\/a> redefines possibilities in art and sexuality, while Housman keeps his love for his best friend hidden. But on the final night of Housman’s life, will he finally give in to the love that dares not speak its name?<\/p>\n

Greenspan will lead the cast as A.E.\u00a0Housman, with further casting and creative team information to be revealed at a later date.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve loved the work of Tom Stoppard since seeing The Coast of\u00a0Utopia in 2007. His writing is thrilling and generous, with crackling humor and endless depths to\u00a0explore,” says director Elkind in a statement.\u00a0“When he died last year, I realized that so much of the way I think about love, death, and\u00a0memory was shaped by The Invention of Love. I\u2019m so grateful to honor Stoppard with our production\u00a0starring the completely brilliant David Greenspan.\u201d<\/p>\n
