\n\tThe King of the Monsters is about to hit the Big Apple. Takashi Yamazaki\u2019s \u201cGodzilla Minus Zero<\/a>\u201d will have its world premiere at the 64th New York Film Festival<\/a>, Film at Lincoln Center announced on Tuesday. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe film, the highly anticipated follow-up to 2023\u2019s Oscar-winning \u201cGodzilla Minus One,\u201d will roar into Alice Tully Hall on Sept. 26. Yamazaki and members of the cast and crew will be in attendance. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe festival takes place from Sept. 25 through Oct. 12. James Gray\u2019s \u201cPaper Tiger\u201d has been announced as the opening film, Tony Gilroy\u2019s \u201cBehemoth!\u201d as the centerpiece, and Ava DuVernay\u2019s documentary \u201c14th\u201d will be the festival\u2019s closing film.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cGodzilla Minus Zero\u201d picks up in 1949, two years after \u201cGodzilla Minus One,\u201d and continues the story of the Shikishima family as they face an all-new calamity. Something tells us the chaos will involve a scaly, fire-breathing beast and a boatload of property damage. \u201cGodzilla Minus Zero\u201d is a GKIDS release.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt is truly an honor to introduce our film to a global audience for the first time in a place of such history and prestige,\u201d said Yamazaki. \u201cI am filled with both awe and excitement to see how far the power of Japan\u2019s Godzilla can terrify audiences around the world, and whether they will resonate with what lies beyond that fear.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMore than 70 years after the first Godzilla movie, Takashi Yamazaki continues to prove that there\u2019s life in the old franchise yet, returning to its postwar roots to locate a haunting, primal terror,\u201d said Dennis Lim, NYFF artistic director. \u201cLike its predecessor, \u2018Godzilla Minus Zero\u2019 is a throwback blockbuster, a showcase for human drama and innovative craft, and we are excited to have its world premiere as this year\u2019s NYFF Spotlight Gala.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The King of the Monsters is about to hit the Big Apple.
