{"id":313964,"date":"2026-08-05T01:50:16","date_gmt":"2026-08-05T01:50:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/313964\/"},"modified":"2026-08-05T01:50:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T01:50:16","slug":"july-2026-sets-record-low-for-homicides-in-brooklyn-da-gonzalez","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/313964\/","title":{"rendered":"July 2026 sets record low for homicides in Brooklyn: DA Gonzalez"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BOROUGHWIDE \u2014 THE BROOKLYN DISTRICT ATTORNEY\u2019S OFFICE is celebrating a <a href=\"https:\/\/brooklynda.org\/2026\/08\/04\/brooklyn-had-the-fewest-homicides-in-any-month-ever-this-july-as-gun-violence-continues-to-decline-from-historic-lows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">record low for homicides<\/a>, just as the city prepares for National Night Out Against Crime later on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Brooklyn had the fewest homicides in any month ever this July, recording just two for the past month, and tying the record from this January for the fewest killings in any calendar month, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced. Brooklyn then went 29 consecutive days without a murder \u2014 the longest such streak on record. While the borough recorded one homicide each on July 1 and 2, no additional murders took place until a woman was found dead in a suspected domestic incident on Aug. 1.
