{"id":315089,"date":"2026-08-06T10:20:32","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T10:20:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/315089\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T10:20:32","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T10:20:32","slug":"update-cbs-news-reverses-course-airs-story-on-9-11-families-supporting-mamdani","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/315089\/","title":{"rendered":"UPDATE: CBS News reverses course, airs story on 9\/11 families supporting Mamdani"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, CBS News New York <a href=\"https:\/\/popular.info\/p\/the-truth-about-the-viral-911-petition\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">falsely reported<\/a> that \u201cthousands of 9\/11 victims\u2019 families are asking New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani not to attend this year\u2019s solemn remembrance ceremony.\u201d The article appeared to be based on misinformation promoted by the New York Post.<\/p>\n<p>After inquiries from Popular Information, CBS News New York <a href=\"https:\/\/popular.info\/p\/update-after-the-mamdani-911-smear\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">changed their story<\/a>, but failed to include an editor\u2019s note about the correction. The main CBS News accounts on Instagram and X, which have millions of followers, also quietly removed posts based on CBS News New York\u2019s reporting. \u201cOnce we were told that CBS News New York\u2019s reporting was inaccurate, we took our post down,\u201d a source inside CBS News told Popular Information.<\/p>\n<p>This week, CBS News New York has radically changed their coverage. A segment that aired Monday highlighted that many people who lost a family member on 9\/11 are \u201cdefending Mayor Mamdani\u2019s inclusion in this year\u2019s solemn remembrance ceremony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The story features an interview with Elizabeth Miller, who lost her father on 9\/11, and serves as the project director of September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows. \u201cMayor Mamdani has assured 9\/11 families that he wants to be there to honor our loved ones and I think he should be allowed to do that,\u201d Miller told CBS News New York. Her group represents 250 individuals who lost family members during the terrorist attack.<\/p>\n<p>CBS News New York notes that the petition seeking to ban Mamdani has attracted 72,000 signatures \u201cfrom the public.\u201d The network has spoken to \u201ctwo petitioners\u201d who lost family members on 9\/11 and support the petition.
