We both prefer to stay in Lower Manhattan when we’re in the city, as we enjoy the neighborhoods more than Midtown. For awhile now, I’ve had my eye on a newish Hyatt property on the edge of Chinatown in the Bowery called Hotel 50. We decided to give it a try…especially since many properties were sold out because of the World Cup being in town.

When I originally checked availability, I noticed something strange: the property’s lovely high-floor Bowery Suites were classified as premium, so my World of Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards (SUAs) couldn’t be used for them. However, the accessible Bowery Suite is a standard suite and was available for the nights in question. Once confirmed, I messaged the hotel and let them know that I didn’t need the accessible room, and they moved us to a regular suite.

We loved the room and enjoyed the hotel a lot. At 23K points for an NYC hotel during the World Cup, we left very pleased.

Hotel 50 Bowery Bottom Line Review

The Hotel 50 isn’t perfect, by any means, but we really enjoyed it. The room was among the best that I’ve ever had in NY, with a fully separate living room and floor-to-ceiling windows with magnificent views all around. Indeed, one of the aspects of Lower Manhattan that we love is that a mid-level room can offer an incredible view, rather than looking across the street at another building as you would in Midtown. The vista from the rooftop bar/restaurant, where breakfast was served, was sensational. There are some inventive, generous areas of public space, and the proximity to Chinatown, Tribeca, Soho, and the East Village was great for us. The breakfast is lacking compared to some NYC Hyatts; there’s no pool, barely a fitness area, and it’s inconvenient for those that are spending all their time Uptown. All that said, this is a solid value for NYC…which isn’t something I often say when looking at properties to book with points. Thumbs Up

Price: A Hyatt Category 5, 15K-35K points/night, depending on season. We spent 23K points/night (booked under the old award chart) when we were there in June, 2026. After various fees and taxes were included, the cash price per night would have been ~$450-$500.
Value: The cents-per-point value is usually very good when compared to our Reasonable Redemption Value for Hyatt points of 1.5 cents each. Even more so, given the incredible cash and point prices of hotels in New York City, this could be an excellent value when in the low-moderate price bands. The 30K-35K price commanded at the top two bands feels spendy.
Location: As I mentioned earlier, my wife and I vastly prefer staying in lower Manhattan, and we really enjoyed the location here, right outside Chinatown and across the street from the pedestrian path across the Manhattan Bridge. There are two useful subway stops within a ~5-7 min walk, but it’s a minimum ~20 minute ride to Midtown, which may feel cumbersome for folks with kids and events to go to.
Room: The room was spectacular. It occupied one end of the building, and the wall-spanning windows gave us more than 180 degrees of Manhattan and Brooklyn, when combining what you could see from the living room and bedroom. This is a true one-bedroom, with a hallway and bathroom connecting the living room and bedroom, which each have closable doors. The furnishings, bed, and carpet were top-notch, and the whole thing felt much more spacious than its 685 sq feet might suggest on paper.
Parking: Valet parking is $80+tax per night; self parking is available at a nearby garage for $60+tax per night. Valet parking is free for Globalists on award stays.
Resort/Destination Fee: A ridiculous $40+tax per night, waived on award stays. There is a full list of “included amenities,” the most salient being:

Access to 2nd-floor living room lounge
Complimentary tea and coffee in the Living Room and at The Crown rooftop lounge all day
Daily newspaper
Living room yoga on Saturdays
Neighborhood walking tours Wednesdays 5:15 PM and Sundays 10 AM
20% discount on One World Observatory tickets

Internet: Excellent throughout the property.
Service: For such a small property, the service was excellent. We were warmly greeted, and our Globalist benefits were explained in detail when we arrived…they even gave us a copy of the breakfast menu. Housekeeping never knocked on the door, but always serviced the room, even on one day when I had to be in the room until late afternoon because of meetings. Restaurant service was friendly, and they were very accommodating when it came to extras at breakfast.
Turndown service: Nightly, with water refills.
Dining:

The Crown: Rooftop bar with limited food service, an incredible patio, and dynamite views of Manhattan. It serves a modest breakfast menu for in-house guests daily from 7:00 am to 10:30 am, offers free coffee and tea during the day, and has drinks and food from 4 pm to 12 am. There’s a decent happy hour with nice sunset ambiance from 4 pm to 6 pm daily.

Spa: There is no on-property spa, nor is there a swimming pool. The hotel does partner with a vendor to provide in-room massage.
Fitness Room: There is a tiny fitness area with a smattering of cardio and weight equipment. Once there are more than 3 people, it feels pretty crowded.
Hyatt Globalist Benefits:

Room Upgrade: I booked a standard room and applied a suite upgrade award at booking to confirm a Bowery Suite room. The room was sensational, one of our favorite that we’ve ever had in NYC.
Free Breakfast: Served daily at the Crown. The property has struggled with how to provide breakfast for a couple of years now. In the past, it partnered with a couple of local restaurants to deliver room-service breakfast, but it sounds like each one had consistency issues, so now it serves a stripped-down breakfast menu at the rooftop Crown Lounge. The food is just ok, and there’s not an abundant selection, but it’s sufficient for a few mornings.
Lounge: Nearly the entire second floor of the hotel is occupied by The Living Room lounge area. It’s a pretty cool space, with indoor meeting areas, workspaces, TVs, and a coffee/tea station. Outside, there’s an expansive terrace with games, swings, and fire pits. This is open to all guests, not just Globalists. Open daily from 7 am-8 pm.
Late Checkout: When I checked in, the front desk agent proactively offered me a 4 pm checkout on our departure date, which we took advantage of.
Parking: Valet parking is free for Globalists on award stays.

Would I stay again? Absolutely. We were very happy with the room, location, and service given the points price.

Pros and Cons
Pros

Marvelous views throughout the property, probably from almost any room, and especially from the rooftop patio
Bowery Suite is a fantastic option for using a Suite Upgrade Award in NYC (or for booking a suite outright)
Lots of great spaces to hang out in during the day, both in the second-floor lounge and the rooftop bar, both of which offer free coffee and tea
Fun location on the Lower East Side, right outside Chinatown and within easy walking distance of Soho, Tribeca, and the East Village.
Unusually modest (for NYC World of Hyatt) non-peak points prices

Cons

$40 destination fee is irritating
No pool or spa, and a sparse, cramped fitness area
Breakfast is acceptable, but not much beyond that
Location could be a pain for those having to truck back and forth to Midtown

Image
