<\/p>\nNEW YORK CITY (WABC) — MTA buses will soon look a little different as a pilot program expands to make things easier for families.<\/p>\n
Officials announced on Thursday that there will be a designated place for strollers on every city bus and those strollers do not have to be folded up.<\/p>\n

The previous policy required adults to take their child out of the stroller and fold it up to properly store it any time they got on the bus.<\/p>\n
For many people, they said that this made it too difficult to take the bus.<\/p>\n
MTA officials spoke Thursday morning about how important accessibility is.<\/p>\n
“When we talk about accessibility, we often focus on the elevators and our subway system,” Sen. Andrew Gounardes said. “Our bus system, which is just as important to the fabric of our trans system is equally as important to ensure that it’s accessible for all and that does not mean just people who are mobility limited but it also means people who are pushing shopping carts, strollers and other types of devices.”<\/p>\n
The initial pilot program went into effect in 2023.<\/p>\n
The MTA says funding from New York State helped make it possible to expand the program to all city buses.<\/p>\n
