Thousands are expected to converge on Brooklyn on Saturday, Aug. 8, for the inaugural Jamaica Day Parade, the first parade in the United States dedicated exclusively to celebrating Jamaica, its people, culture, achievements and global impact.<\/p>\n
Organized by the Jamaica Rising Day Parade organization, the landmark event is expected to bring together Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica from across New York, the United States, and around the world for an \u201cunforgettable day of pride, unity, culture and celebration.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Jamaica Day Parade will transform the streets of Brooklyn into a vibrant sea of black, green and gold, featuring cultural groups, schools, churches, community organizations, elected officials, businesses, entertainers, marching bands, youth organizations, athletes, and members of the global Jamaican Diaspora,\u201d said the Jamaica Rising Day Parade organization.<\/p>\n
It said the event will be held under the theme, \u201cJamaica Rising: One People. One Legacy. One Future.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\u201cThis powerful theme reflects the resilience, achievements and aspirations of the Jamaican people while celebrating Jamaica\u2019s extraordinary contributions to the world,\u201d the organization said.<\/p>\n
It said the Jamaica Day Parade will assemble at Bob Marley Boulevard (Church Avenue) and proceed north along Flatbush Avenue through the heart of Brooklyn, home to one of the largest Jamaican communities outside of Jamaica.<\/p>\n
\u201cThousands of participants and spectators are expected to line the parade route as colorful floats, marching bands, cultural performers, community groups, and special guests create a spectacular celebration of Jamaican excellence and pride,\u201d the organization said.<\/p>\n
It said the Jamaica Day Parade is \u201ca celebration, a movement dedicated to celebrating Jamaican heritage and culture; inspiring youth and future generations; strengthening community unity; promoting economic growth and opportunity; connecting the global Jamaican Diaspora; (and) showcasing Jamaica\u2019s contributions to the world.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe parade serves as a platform to preserve culture, build community, create opportunities, and inspire future generations,\u201d the Jamaica Day Parade said. \u201cFrom the legendary music of Bob Marley to Olympic champions, entrepreneurs, educators, healthcare professionals, artists, public servants, and innovators, Jamaica\u2019s influence reaches every corner of the globe.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Jamaica Day Parade will honor these achievements while creating a lasting tradition that unites generations and celebrates the enduring spirit of the Jamaican people,\u201d it added. \u201cOrganizations, businesses, schools, churches, elected officials, cultural groups, sponsors, vendors, volunteers, performers, and individuals are invited to participate in this historic event.<\/p>\n
