She\u2019s one tough granny. <\/p>\n

An 87-year-old Bronx woman<\/a> who was shot in the neck during a broad-daylight burst of gunfire by a trio of armed teens said she had no idea she\u2019d been hit until a stranger pointed out the blood pouring down her neck.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just go through this gate, and I was standing,\u201d Elticeal Grant told The Post Thursday from her home behind a metal gate in Wakefield. \u201cSomeone said to me \u2018You\u2019re bleeding, you get shot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then, a bystander ran up to her with paper towels \u201cand start to sop up the blood, sop up the blood, sop of the blood,\u201d she said, repeating the phrase for dramatic emphasis.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was bleeding so much,\u201d said Grant. \u201cThat\u2019s all I know.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grant was hit by a stray bullet <\/a>at East 224th Street and Barnes Avenue around 3:50 p.m. on July 31, according to police. An 18-year-old man was also struck in the hip and survived.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Three 16-year-olds were arrested \u2014 two of whom were charged with attempted murder and weapons possession, said police. The third faces only a charge of weapons possession.<\/p>\n

Grant didn\u2019t remember seeing or hearing anyone firing a gun. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was walking along the road,\u201d she said. \u201cThe only thing I saw was cars parked in the road. I didn\u2019t see anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said she became cold and and started shivering after she was hit, as the bullet left a wound beneath her earlobe. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s crazy that she was shot,\u201d said her niece Keisha McCrea, adding that her aunt has \u201cat least 10\u201d grandchildren and some great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n

Her aunt is \u201ca nice lady\u201d who moved to the neighborhood 20 years ago from the island of Jamaica, she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing like that ever happened to her there,\u201d she said. \u201cIt hurts to see it happen here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grant\u2019s home nurse said the shooters should be locked up regardless of the state\u2019s Raise the Age Law<\/a>, which lifted the age of criminal responsibility from 16 to 18 and has led to rising youth gun violence.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re out here shooting, you should just be in jail,\u201d said the nurse, who identified herself as Mary Jane. \u201cOr, like, they have those \u2026 juvenile programs. They should at least go there. Not home, though.\u201d<\/p>\n

The city\u2019s two juvenile detention centers \u2014 Horizon in the Bronz and Crossroads in Brooklyn \u2014 have faced severe overcrowding and are often operating at or above maximum capacity, according to city data online.<\/p>\n

She also said the teens may have been working for drug dealers in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s older people \u2026 like the big drug dealers \u2026 that are literally using the young teenage boys because they know that they have that advantage,\u201d she said. \u201cThey\u2019re just using them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shooting victims in the Bronx\u2019s 47 Precinct have increased 18% to 26 so far this year compared to the 22 at this point last year, according to NYPD data. The number of shooting victims citywide has decreased by 5% to 474 from 491, the data show.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"She\u2019s one tough granny.
