{"id":317172,"date":"2026-08-09T13:16:51","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T13:16:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/317172\/"},"modified":"2026-08-09T13:16:51","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T13:16:51","slug":"retired-nypd-chief-drowns-in-his-long-island-homes-pool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/317172\/","title":{"rendered":"Retired NYPD chief drowns in his Long Island home&#8217;s pool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A retired NYPD chief <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/03\/us-news\/nypd-cop-dies-after-breast-implant-removal-surgery-in-dominican-republic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was found dead<\/a> in the backyard pool of his Long Island home, according to police.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Izzo\u2019s body was found by a relative inside the pool on Friday around 7:45 p.m., the Suffolk County Police Department <a href=\"https:\/\/suffolkpd.org\/Alerts\/Press-Releases\/ArtMID\/10029\/ArticleID\/15252\/Man-Drowns-in-Backyard-Pool\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">said in a statement<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>First responders rushed to the Stony Brook residence and performed CPR on the 75-year-old. <\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.79980469;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40255436\" width=\"472\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/45-p-m-officers-members-136849828.jpg\" alt=\"A tribute post featuring Anthony Izzo. \" class=\"wp-image-40255436\"  \/>Anthony Izzo, 75, was found dead inside his pool on Friday night.  Instagram\/@nypdcolumbia<\/p>\n<p>He was then taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators do not <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/26\/us-news\/final-minutes-of-ex-nypd-cops-slain-12-year-old-son-revealed\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">suspect any foul play<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p>Izzo, who was the son of a New York City police officer, kicked off his career in law enforcement when he was 17 years old in 1968 as a police trainee, <a href=\"https:\/\/qns.com\/2011\/11\/chief-anthony-izzo-chief-of-organized-crime-control-bureau-nypd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">according to a QNS profile piece<\/a> from 2011. <\/p>\n<p>He worked his way through the ranks and was promoted to chief of the Organized Crime Bureau in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChief Izzo dedicated decades of his life to protecting New Yorkers and supporting the men and women of the NYPD,\u201d the Detective Endowment Association <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/GreatestDetectives\/posts\/the-detectives-endowment-association-mourns-the-sudden-passing-of-retired-nypd-c\/1492819362887978\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">wrote in a heartfelt tribute<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Izzo also served as the commanding officer of the 115th precinct in Jackson Heights, Queens, in 1995.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis leadership and dedication to the people of New York City left a lasting legacy. Our thoughts are with his <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/18\/us-news\/nypd-cops-relative-24-fatally-shot-in-the-eye-in-nyc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">family and loved ones<\/a>.
