The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amny.com\/new-york\/bronx\/bronx-explosion-fire-injuries-08052026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">fire erupted on Wednesday<\/a> after an explosion rocked the neighborhood on East 209 Street.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>FDNY officials said the blaze engulfed the apartment building\u2019s second floor and moved up, causing several collapses. Meanwhile, flames burst from the building\u2019s windows, and smoke billowed into the air. The first death was discovered on Wednesday evening, just after fire officials briefed the media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was in bed and I felt everything shake,\u201d one man who lived nearby told amNewYork on Thursday. \u201cI have lived here for twenty years.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>The residents of the charred building have been left homeless, prompting friends to create fundraisers for the victims, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/support-erica-pena-after-apartment-fire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Erica Pe\u00f1a, aFamily Enrichment Specialist at PS 195.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-137862996\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1786034528_913_4CFB23DD-F1FE-468E-ADD4-DB3672EE4991.jpg\" alt=\"flames and smoke pour from bronx building after explosion\" width=\"5376\" height=\"4382\" title=\"Third body discovered in rubble of Bronx five-alarm fire 2\"  \/>At least 11 people were injured, including three critically, in an explosion and fire at a Bronx apartment building on Wednesday afternoon.Photo by Dean Moses<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe dedicates herself every day to supporting children, parents, and the school community. Those who were not at home, like Chris Falcon, raced to rescue his beloved dogs, who he described as service animals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of my dogs that are in there are service animals. I rescue dogs because I don\u2019t want them to die in a f**king shelter.
