A compliment to their DQ Lemonade Sparkler and Hibiscus Lemonade DQ Sparklers (exactly what they sound like: lemonade and hibiscus-lemonade spiked with a bit of ticklish effervescence), the “Coolers” line is a trio of flavors built on lemonade, hibiscus, and pineapple and Tajin (you read that right), plus DQ’s classic vanilla soft service and their icy Misty slush, so what you end up with isn’t quite a milk shake or an icy slushy type of drink. But more on that in a second.

Just a quick note: while DQ doesn’t quite have the kind of “oops the McFlurry machine’s broken again” rep that actually spawned a Mcflurry-tracking website, there’s always a chance you’ll encounter a busted (or “it needs to be turned on and sung to gently in advance”) at your local DQ, so if you like the sound of any of the below, call ahead.

Lemonade DQ Cooler

Pros: All three drinks involve unexpected flavor combinations. And even at this most basic, entry-level of the trio, there’s a bit of risk. (It’s not often you get lemonade and creaminess with, well, let’s say “smooth” success.) But it works here, with an almost sherbety lemon flavor coming very, very gently into play. The texture―both creamy and icy―is kind of an ideal for true mid-summer heat.

Cons: I was expecting (and hoping) for more tartness, plain and simple. Especially with whatever (delightful) chemical stabilizer is in that icy Misty slush, I’d guess the D Queen could have gone a bit tangier with her (real) lemon juice concentrate. But soft serve dominates here. Insofar as anything creamy, middlingly flavorful, and a tad oversweet can dominate.

Hibiscus Lemonade DQ Cooler

Pros: The color. Not a reason to buy it, unless your friend/daughter/bestie (or revived inner child) is obsessed with very pale, like petal-pale soft pink―but it still looks pretty. And like the classic Lemonade DQ Cooler, the texture is just a fun in-between state, kind of like solar plasma, except this won’t instantaneously melt your tongue. Half milk shake, half Slurpee, and a lovely sunset pink.

Cons: You might have noticed a pattern: all the pros are aesthetic, or textural. The flavor here is―floral. Not subtly floral. Like, a bit soapy. If you’ve ever had, and adored, agua de jamaica (also made with hibiscus concentrate), you won’t find any resemblance here. Despite DQ’s claims of zesty lemonade, none seems to… zest itself through the extra sweet, almost fully hibiscus florals.

DQ Pineapple Lemonade Cooler with Tajín

Pros: Tajín. A staple seasoning, the savvy home cook’s must-have, especially in the summer months. A mix of chilis, lime, and salt, sprinkle it onto fresh fruit, eggs, grilled shrimp, straight up onto your tongue for a (truly) zesty palate pick me up. And though it’s welcome in the Pineapple Lemonade Cooler, DQ would’ve been wise to add a few hundred dashes more. Okay, maybe ten. So, good call on the Tajín. Also, yes, the pineapple flavor, which picks up (and, to be frank, makes up for lacking) lemony tartness. But…

Cons: It’s still just all too sweet. The tart, tropical pineapple is definitely there, but even with the (over-delicate) flurry of Tajín, nothing can kind of break through the sucrose of it all. As with the original Lemonade Cooler, lemon flavors (real or otherwise) seem like they’re hiding sheepishly in the background.

FINAL VERDICT

Maybe a bit severe―especially for a chain with a Cinnamon Toast Crunch dipped cone. But if they’re capable of that kind of magic, surely they can tweak the lemoniness, tone down the hibiscus floral perfume, and dash a bit more… zestily with Tajín. After all, if you’re gonna put Tajín in the name, make sure our palates recognize Tajín (and lemon, and maybe a bit more of that tart hibiscus flavor) in the drinks themselves. (If you’re buying for the little ones, I’d err on the side of the OG Lemonade Cooler. Most kids don’t like perfumy foods and would probably shy away from even the small amount of spice the rest of us palate-numbed grown-ups are craving to just… feel alive again).

Part of their contributions to the limited-time summer menu madness of 2026, DQ introduced a line of creamy…

[37
9,24,63,122,124,123
post-317330","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-queens","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-nyc","tag-queens","tag-queens-headlines","tag-queens-news
["GET
