{"id":317339,"date":"2026-08-09T20:44:22","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T20:44:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/317339\/"},"modified":"2026-08-09T20:44:22","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T20:44:22","slug":"boat-capsizes-in-new-york-harbor-woman-and-5-month-old-baby-die-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/317339\/","title":{"rendered":"Boat capsizes in New York Harbor, woman and 5-month-old baby die"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK \u2014 A woman and infant died after a boat capsized Saturday night in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/new-york-harbor\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Harbor<\/a>, police said.<\/p>\n<p>The boat overturned around 10:25 p.m. near <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/liberty-island\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liberty Island<\/a>, home to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/statue-of-liberty\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Statue of Liberty<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve people were rescued from the water before police arrived, and police divers later located the 27-year-old woman and 5-month-old girl in the water. Both were taken to a hospital where they were pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<p>                        <a name=\"pagebreak\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The victims\u2019 identities have not been released pending notification of family, police said Sunday.
