(WCAX) &#8211; The Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/d9\/2026-08\/01_us_v_vermont_-_tuition_complaint.pdf\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/d9\/2026-08\/01_us_v_vermont_-_tuition_complaint.pdf\">Vermont<\/a>, New York and Connecticut over policies that allow noncitizen residents to receive in-state tuition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Vermont\u2019s law, passed in 2022, allows refugees to pay the in-state tuition rate at all schools in the Vermont State College System.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/department-justice-files-complaints-against-new-york-connecticut-and-vermont-challenging\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/department-justice-files-complaints-against-new-york-connecticut-and-vermont-challenging\">The Department of Justice says the law discriminates against U.S. citizens.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">WCAX News reached out to the University of Vermont and Vermont State University for a response to the lawsuit but had not yet heard back when this story was published.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WCAX.
