Antonelli said other interesting events are coming up for the Brooklyn Bar, including some \u201ccultural events\u201d in September. \u201cWe\u2019ve got Hispanic Heritage Month and a program planned with the Brooklyn Women\u2019s Bar,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to Antonelli, membership is also on the upswing. \u201cI\u2019m actually surprised at how well we\u2019re doing,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been tougher over the last few years, and there\u2019s been a bit of a decline, but this year, we had a great response to our initial renewal period,\u201d he added. \u201cI\u2019m confident that will continue and we\u2019ll build our membership.\u201d<\/p>\n
Antonelli referred to the BBA as a \u201ccareer accelerator.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have some law students here tonight, and they\u2019re going to be so far ahead of their peers,\u201d he said. \u201cWe help attorneys accelerate their career, regardless of their age.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
A \u2018great community\u2019 with \u2018vast resources\u2019\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Hon. Benard Graham has been a member of the BBA for more than a decade.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all work in a very high-stress environment, and the ability to socialize in a fraternal type of organization is very important and quite helpful,\u201d Graham said. \u201cI think the people that participate in this group benefit from it greatly.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Hon. Javier Ortiz has been a BBA member since finishing law school around 15 years ago. \u201cThe attraction for me is the great community that the organization is in addition to its vast resources,\u201d Ortiz said, adding that he often refers people to the Brooklyn Bar.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of my friends and colleagues are members. The people are just lovely, intelligent and very capable,\u201d Ortiz said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Kwok Kei Ng has been a BBA member for 10 years and chairs the Diversity Committee, which focuses on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the Brooklyn legal community.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cNot everybody knows about the value of the Brooklyn Bar Association,\u201d Ng said. \u201cThey should really be taking advantage of it. Events like these provide an environment where people can talk about the newest development of the law or something significantly more casual. It\u2019s invaluable.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The BBA\u2019s stated primary purpose is to promote professional competence among attorneys and increase respect for the legal system. It also works to ensure all residents of Brooklyn have equal access to the criminal and civil justice systems.\u00a0<\/p>\n
