{"id":318744,"date":"2026-08-11T16:42:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-11T16:42:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/318744\/"},"modified":"2026-08-11T16:42:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-11T16:42:15","slug":"whats-next-for-nycs-luxury-second-home-tax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/318744\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s next for NYC\u2019s luxury second-home tax?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The city\u2019s tax on luxury second homes can move forward for now after the Mamdani administration appealed a <a href=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/news\/2026\/08\/10\/pied---terre-tax-rollout-blocked-temporarily-by-staten-island-judge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Staten Island judge\u2019s ruling that temporarily blocked the rollout<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The appeal triggered an automatic stay, meaning the temporary restraining order is not currently in effect and the city can continue implementing the tax while the appeal is pending.<\/p>\n<p>The tax applies to second homes in New York City worth more than $5 million and is expected to help close a $500 million budget deficit.<\/p>\n<p>The case is scheduled to return to court Aug. 31, when a higher court will consider the dispute.
