{"id":319435,"date":"2026-08-12T12:20:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T12:20:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/319435\/"},"modified":"2026-08-12T12:20:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T12:20:11","slug":"half-of-new-york-voters-view-dsa-unfavorable-siena-poll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/319435\/","title":{"rendered":"Half of New York voters view DSA unfavorable: Siena poll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Almost half of New Yorkers oppose the new lefty Democratic Socialists of America movement, according to a newly released poll.<\/p>\n<p>Only 30% of likely Empire State voters told Siena University they take a favorable view of the DSA, while 47% view them unfavorably and another 23% were unsure.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the DSA\u2019s popularity is centered in New York City \u2014 with 49% of Big Apple respondents in favor of the political organization, which has <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/07\/us-news\/dsa-table-at-mamdanis-city-run-town-hall-raises-ethics-questions-deeply-concerning\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">surged in notoriety since the rise of Mayor Zohran Mamdani<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40296843\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2026-tuesdays-votes-test-political-137124752.jpg\" alt=\"A voter casting their ballot in a voting booth during a primary election in New York.\" class=\"wp-image-40296843\"  \/>Nearly half of New Yorkers oppose the Democratic Socialists of America, a new Siena University poll reveals. Bloomberg via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Support for the DSA, however, drops off a steep cliff at the Nassau and Westchester county lines, with only 16% of suburban voters and 27% of upstate voters supportive, according to the poll released Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p>Jewish New Yorkers are also starkly against the DSA, which has <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/10\/us-news\/dsa-co-chair-megan-romer-says-events-of-october-7-were-in-many-ways-inevitable-blames-israel-for-running-concentration-camp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tapped into anti-Israel as part of its rise in the last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A massive 71% of Jewish respondents had an unfavorable view of the DSA, more than any other demographic polled by Siena besides Republicans and conservative-leaning voters.<\/p>\n<p>Favorability towards the DSA also tilted toward younger and lower income voters, according to Siena\u2019s numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats themselves were also split on the DSA.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40296838\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/new-york-city-mayor-zohran-136571142.jpg\" alt=\"NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani speaking at a press conference about illegal high-speed e-bike and e-scooter sales.\" class=\"wp-image-40296838\"  \/>The DSA has gained prominence since Zohran Mamdani\u2019s rise to mayor.
