The maintenance is high but this estate-condition two-bedroom has charming original 1920s features, an interesting history, and \u201coblique river views,\u201d as the listing puts it. In the Brooklyn Heights Historic District, it\u2019s on the fourth floor of 2 Grace Court, a six-story, 121-unit building that overlooks New York Harbor on a storied cul-de-sac close to the Promenade.<\/p>\n

The storied part is that this street played an outsize role in Heights history. Once part of the Remsen estate, in the 19th century it was home to the Packer and Prentice families and their mansions<\/a>, whose fortune was built on hatmaking and who influenced the development of the Heights and the city of Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

The Packer mansion was torn down in 1916, and this brick building with limestone details designed by Mortimer Freehof opened in 1924<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With high ceilings and wood floors, the six-room apartment includes an entrance foyer, dining room, and one bathroom. Coved ceilings, picture rails, and original moldings run throughout most of the unit.<\/p>\n

French doors separate the main rooms, and there is parquet in the dining room (and perhaps under the living room carpet). The kitchen retains its original cupboards and closets, including a glass-paned dish cupboard with brackets and a pull-out cutting board.<\/p>\n

Both bedrooms have two windows, and there are five closets in the apartment. The bathroom is not shown.<\/p>\n

Rented private storage is also available in the building, which has a shared courtyard, community garden, and roof deck with sweeping views of the harbor and Manhattan. There is a live-in super, part-time doorman, shared laundry, and bike storage.<\/p>\n
