A pair of dogs seen in a viral video in which they were tied to the back of a moving car in Queens are looking to start the next chapter of their lives.<\/p>\n
The video from January outraged many, as the two pups were shown on video tethered to the back of a car being led down a busy Long Island City street by their former owner, who was behind the wheel.<\/p>\n
That owner was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. That allowed the courts to legally transfer ownership of the two dogs to the ASPCA.<\/p>\n
The two dogs were brought to the group’s new recovery and rehabilitation center in Pawling, in Duchess County. The center is dedicated to providing specialized care to dogs who are victims of animal cruelty within the five boroughs.<\/p>\n
“Our dogs come with our partnership with the NYPD. So most of them are victims of cruelty or neglect,” said Valencia Caceres-Gil, the senior director of operations for the ASPCA. “So once they get here, they get medically and behaviorally assessed and then we have a very robust behavior team.”<\/p>\n
Caceres-Gil said they have teams who not only monitor the health and emotional well-being of the dogs rescued, but also give the pooches opportunities to experience what life outside of the facility is like.<\/p>\n
Now after months of rehab, Miss Noogie and Marley are looking for a new home. The pair have been living a happy and more confident lives with their foster parents in recent days and weeks \u2014 a far cry from the shy and fearful demeanors they displayed just seven months ago.<\/p>\n
“She\u2019s just such a great dog now. She listens better than my dog does. She\u2019s obedient,” said foster parent Vicky of Miss Noogie. “They’ve been fantastic because they have they have so much support, they have dog behaviorists that I could reach out to like every day if I wanted to.”<\/p>\n
The team’s efforts have made a huge difference for both Marley and Miss Noogie, who have become much more confident in their interactions with humans and their K-9 peers. They are now part of a group of lovable dogs the ASPCA says are ready to find permanent homes.<\/p>\n
