{"id":320593,"date":"2026-08-13T19:04:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T19:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/320593\/"},"modified":"2026-08-13T19:04:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T19:04:08","slug":"hank-heaven-on-welterweight-jazz-guitar-and-surviving-new-york-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/320593\/","title":{"rendered":"Hank Heaven on \u2018Welterweight,\u2019 jazz guitar, and surviving New York City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n            \u201cI have this theory that if New York wants you in the city, it\u2019s going to keep you,\u201d <a target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/hank_heaven\/?hl=en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hank Heaven<\/a> says with a knowing smile while reclining on a couch in The FADER office.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            The Hudson Valley-born, New York City-based songwriter is talking about being a working musician in the City they&#8217;ve called home for the past decade. \u201cI&#8217;d be pretty broke, but something would just save me, last minute.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            <br \/>Stories about the pitfalls and saving graces of New York City gleam in acoustic and electric color on their new EP Welterweight (out tomorrow, August 14) \u2014 six songs which pair plainly told stories with Hank\u2019s deceptively complex songcraft.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            They tell tale of one key incident on EP standout \u201c<a target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KnSt3AU1Yjg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">I Wanna Be Your Man<\/a>\u201d from their new EP: a friend was moving to Paris and let them stay in their apartment for free. \u201cThe landlord was in prison,\u201d they remember.
