Facing a surprisingly strong challenge from Nassau\u2019s Bruce Blakeman, Gov. Kathy Hochul is desperate to run for re-election against President Donald Trump instead: That\u2019s why she just announced $7 million in emergency spending to provide legal representation for migrant minors who . . . already have lawyers.<\/p>\n

The gov is so eager to win votes by protecting New Yorkers from ICE, she\u2019s making up threats \u2014 and ignoring real ones.<\/p>\n

This week she joined Mayor Zohran Mamdani and state Attorney General Tish James to announce $7.25 million to fund attorneys for some 1,400 migrant kids facing removal proceedings, including about 250 in detention \u2014 necessary, they claimed, because the Trump administration cancelled federal funding, \u201cabandoning\u201d the kids.<\/p>\n

But it hadn\u2019t, Border czar Tom Homan thundered back that night: All it did was switch to a better contract for that representation, one which \u201cdefends the children at a better rate than what was being done in the past. There hasn\u2019t been one child at a hearing that hasn\u2019t been represented by a lawyer under this new contract.\u201d<\/p>\n

On to the threats Hochul refuses to face: Homan also, quite rightly, slammed the gov for her \u201csanctuary\u201d policies that shield border-hopping violent criminals from deportation.<\/p>\n

Such as denying federal detainers to hold the perps for handover: On his watch, \u201cNew York state has denied 14,000 detainers,\u201d Homan fumed \u2014 including \u201c6,800 illegal aliens with assault convictions,\u201d 800 convictions for crimes against children, and \u201c770 convictions for rape and other sex crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bottom line: \u201cDon\u2019t tell me you\u2019re trying to protect children! You\u2019re releasing predators to the street every day across the state.\u201d<\/p>\n

The $7 million Hochul\u2019s wasting on this latest stunt is a drop in the bucket of a state budget that\u2019s soared to $280 billion on her watch \u2014 but she owns every drop of the blood that\u2019s shed<\/a> thanks to her cynical \u201cresistance\u201d to deporting the worst of the worst.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Facing a surprisingly strong challenge from Nassau\u2019s Bruce Blakeman, Gov.
