(PIX11) \u2014 A hawk was rescued by local police off the side of a busy Long Island highway on Thursday, according to officials\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Officers from the Nassau County Police Department received a 911 call around 4:45 p.m. about an injured bird seen near 99 South Service Rd.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/us-news\/northeast\/piranha-pennsylvania-lake-photos\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\tPhotos: Piranha caught by father-son duo in Pennsylvania lake\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The officers found a young Osprey that had fallen out of its nest and were able to safely secure the bird.<\/p>\n<p>The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation was called, and the hawk was transported to a licensed wildlife facility, where it was treated for its injuries before being released back into the wild.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/0f5551c0-58f9-487e-8d08-1d6c0d91c4ea.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4494812\" width=\"915\" height=\"720\"\/>Officers from the Nassau County Police Department rescued the hawk (Credit: NCPD)<\/p>\n<p>The Osprey is a federally protected species, and there are approximately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psegliny.com\/wildlife\/osprey\/ospreyfacts\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2,000 pairs across Long Island.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"NORTH HILLS, N.Y.
