While many of N.Y.C.\u2019s best inns are century-old institutions, very prominent newcomers are testing the old standbys\u2019 ability to stay fresh.\u00a0(In fact, many of the city\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/robbreport.com\/travel\/hotels\/nyc-iconic-hotel-renovations-1237201818\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">legacy hotels<\/a> have undergone full-scale renovations, with billions being pumped into the Waldorf Astoria alone.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI think it was long overdue to keep up with other places around the world who have reputations as being incredible hotel cities, such as London and Paris,\u201d Josh Alexander,<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltravelcollection.com\/travel-agent\/104687\">\u00a0a luxury travel advisor<\/a>\u00a0with ProTravel International, a Virtuoso agency, told Robb Report. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/robbreport.com\/tag\/new-york-city\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York City<\/a>\u00a0was falling behind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn short: It\u2019s a race to up the ante that has resulted in \u201csix, even seven star hotels,\u201d said Lesser, although there isn\u2019t any regulated definition of what those stars mean.
