This Saturday, one of Burning Man\u2019s most legendary mobile stages is setting up shop under a bridge in Greenpoint instead of out on the playa. <\/p>\n
Mayan Warrior, the roving art car and sound system that\u2019s become one of the most iconic sights at Burning Man, is bringing its full-scale installation to Under The K Bridge Park on Saturday, August 15, marking the art car\u2019s first-ever appearance at the Brooklyn venue.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s quietly setting itself up to be one of the summer\u2019s most anticipated parties, yet no one seems to be talking about it.<\/p>\n

What exactly is Mayan Warrior<\/p>\n
If you\u2019ve never been to Burning Man, picture a semi-truck reimagined as a glowing, pyramid-topped temple, wrapped in visionary artwork and firing off full-spectrum laser beams into the desert sky, and you\u2019re starting to get the idea. <\/p>\n
Mayan Warrior began in 2012 as the brainchild of Mexico City-based Pablo Gonz\u00e1lez Vargas, who wanted to build a mobile platform celebrating Mexican culture and Mesoamerican imagery after seeing Mayan masks and artifacts at the National Museum of Anthropology.<\/p>\n
Over more than a decade, it\u2019s evolved into one of the most sought-after stages on the playa, hosting sets from artists like Carl Cox, R\u00fcf\u00fcs du Sol, Black Coffee, and John Summit, all while running on lasers supplied by the same team behind Pink Floyd\u2019s legendary Dark Side of the Moon tour visuals.<\/p>\n
The car survived its own apocalypse<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s the part of the story that makes this weekend\u2019s appearance even more of a big deal. <\/p>\n
In 2023, while touring between Guadalajara and Sayulita, Mexico, the original Mayan Warrior caught fire from a combination of heat, weight, and tire friction, and burned completely to the ground.<\/p>\n
Rather than fold, the team behind it rebuilt from scratch, and by 2024 a new version was back on the playa, reportedly costing close to $3 million to construct. <\/p>\n
Now on its third iteration, the art car remains a full-scale operation, with around 30 people involved year-round and a Burning Man camp of roughly 200 people supporting it, 70 of whom work as crew.<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s lineup is stacked with serious dance music pedigree. <\/p>\n
Headlining is Carl Craig, the Detroit techno pioneer whose career dates back to 1989 and who\u2019s widely credited as one of the genre\u2019s defining architects, alongside a Grammy nomination and a catalog of aliases including Psyche, BFC, and Innerzone Orchestra.<\/p>\n
Joining him is Art Department, the influential dance act now led solo by Toronto\u2019s Jonny White after the project\u2019s long-running partnership with Kenny Glasgow wound down. <\/p>\n
Rounding out the bill is Chaim, the Tel Aviv-born producer known for tracks like \u201cBlue Shadow\u201d and his knack for organic, forward-thinking house and techno, plus Lauren Ritter completing the night\u2019s lineup.<\/p>\n

As of this week, general admission listings were running from around $100 to $200-plus.<\/p>\n
