{"id":32292,"date":"2025-11-07T19:35:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T19:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/32292\/"},"modified":"2025-11-07T19:35:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T19:35:13","slug":"high-hopes-in-brooklyn-for-zohran-mamdanis-mayoral-term","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/32292\/","title":{"rendered":"High Hopes in Brooklyn For Zohran Mamdani\u2019s Mayoral Term"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brooklyn residents said they&#8217;re excited for the prospect of new politics and free bus service after Mamdani won the mayoral election on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p>Many Brooklyn voters said they were pleased that Zohran Mamdani won the mayoral election on Tuesday, and also pinned their hopes that buses will eventually become free.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Voting for the first time, Yaseen Elrowmein, 18,\u00a0a\u00a0student at New York College of Technology, CUNY, said he cast his ballot for Zohran Mamdani in Sunset Park.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most of the people I know voted for him,\u201d said Elrowmein, who also said\u00a0he\u2019s looking forward to Mamdani\u2019s signature campaign promise to make the city\u2019s buses free.\u00a0\u201cHe said he would try to make them free. That would benefit me a lot because I take the bus to get to my college.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Former Governor Andrew Cuomo tried to cast doubt on the 34-year-old\u2019s experience, but voters told BK Reader\u00a0that his youth was part of the appeal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think just having a younger mayor is an improvement,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/laurencollingsss\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lauren Collings<\/a>, 44, a painter from East Williamsburg. She called Mamdani someone who&#8217;s better in touch with the Brooklyn community.<\/p>\n<p>Lauren Wright, 22, a model who recently moved to Boerum Hill from California, said his rise in New York City politics was meteoric.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe just kind of came out of nowhere,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And now he has this mass following and it&#8217;s very real. It&#8217;s very truth based. And I think that that is really inspiring to people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Llyod, a retiree from Sunset Park, said he voted for Mamdani because, at this point, he&#8217;s supporting \u201canything that&#8217;s different.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody wants the governor to come back and be mayor. He&#8217;s a pain in the butt,\u201d said Llyod.<\/p>\n<p>He hopes the incoming mayor will do something about skyrocketing rents. \u201cNobody who works here really can live here anymore. I used to love Brooklyn. Now it&#8217;s just &#8216;Brooklyn.&#8217; It&#8217;s not the same.
