Adelaide was born in Lisbon, marking the couple’s first child to be born outside the UK. She enters a long list of her family members who have been named in reference to the late Queen, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter, Lilibet, who was named after the Queen’s childhood nickname.

According to the royal reporter Rebecca English, Adelaide’s name was partly inspired by Maria Adelaide, a Portuguese woman considered an honorary saint. She also said that the name Annina comes from a personal connection to the couple.
