{"id":324531,"date":"2026-08-19T00:54:28","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T00:54:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/324531\/"},"modified":"2026-08-19T00:54:28","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T00:54:28","slug":"nyc-career-thief-busted-150-times-is-arrested-again-just-weeks-after-being-cut-loose","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/324531\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC career thief busted 150 times is arrested again &#8212; just weeks after being cut loose"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A career thief who\u2019s been <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/13\/us-news\/nyc-thief-with-150-busts-and-taste-for-target-candles-arrested-again-but-quickly-freed\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">arrested nearly 150 times<\/a> was busted again \u2014 just weeks after he was let back out on the streets due to New York\u2019s lax bail laws, Queens prosecutors said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Shaquan Seth, 40, was picked up Monday for allegedly trying to steal $800 worth of Threshold candles from a Target store on Jackson Avenue in Queens \u2013 his favorite haunt and his preferred loot, prosecutors announced.<\/p>\n<p>The Post last week exposed his outrageous crime spree, which dates to 2009 and includes repeated thefts, including several at the Target outlet where he stole $600 in candles in June.<\/p>\n<p>Shaquan Seth has been arrested nearly 150 times. Corbis via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Despite his impressive rap sheet, the stick-fingered candle-lover was cut loose on Aug. 7 because the state\u2019s criminal justice system bans judges from setting bail on non-violent crimes like petty larceny and burglary.<\/p>\n<p>This time, Queens prosecutors invoked a stipulation in state bail laws known as \u201charm on harm,\u201d which allows judges to set bail in non-violent cases typically exempt from bail if the defendant commits multiple crimes and hurts someone or damages property.<\/p>\n<p>According to court records, Seth is accused of entering the Jackson Avenue retailer \u2014 where he was already banned \u2014 and stashing 40 candles in a pull cart and trying to leave without paying.<\/p>\n<p>The Rikers Island jail complex seen in an undated photo.
