QEDC<\/a> has teamed up with Maspeth Federal Savings to provide five $1,000 grants to businesses across the borough to cover expenses such as fixing a broken air conditioner, repairing an awning or printing new menus.<\/p>\nThe initiative is designed to help small businesses tackle \u201cannoying little problems,\u201d according to QEDC, with the organization touting how the program is \u201cfast and remarkably easy\u201d to apply for.<\/p>\n
The deadline for applications is Sept. 30, with the program open to all businesses currently operating in Queens or with plans to imminently open in the borough. Home-based businesses operated by Queens residents are also eligible for the program.<\/p>\n
QEDC Executive Director Ben Guttmann said businesses need to simply write a single paragraph explaining how they would use the money in order to apply for the grants.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes you just need a few extra bucks to get over the hump \u2013 to solve a nagging problem,\u00a0 push your marketing to the next level, or pay down a bill that\u2019s been hanging over your head,\u201d Guttmann said in a statement. \u201cMost exciting for me as a former business owner, we\u2019re keeping this program\u00a0 strikingly easy: just send us a single paragraph explaining what you\u2019d use the money for.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Thomas Rudzewick, president and CEO of Maspeth Federal Savings, said the initiative represents an investment in the future of Queens entrepreneurs.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cBig dreams start in small businesses and what begins as an idea today may become the\u00a0 innovation of tomorrow,\u201d Rudzewick said in a statement.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, QEDC\u2019s Business Services Director Bhavna Punjwani said the initiative can help offer to support to small businesses amid rising costs for the industry.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cEven just a little bit of capital\u00a0 can go a long way for a small business,\u201d Punjwani. \u201cAs costs rise across the board, it can be very difficult for\u00a0 entrepreneurs to find the extra cash they need to reinvest in their businesses. We\u2019re excited to\u00a0 offer this opportunity to do just that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
