In a recent regulatory filing, the regional casino operator said there is \u201csubstantial doubt\u201d about its ability to continue as a going concern<\/a>, sparking a sell-off in the stock that has analysts and investors pointing to the importance of securing financing for the $4 billion New York casino hotel project<\/a>. Truist Securities analyst Barry Jonas highlights the crucial nature of Bally\u2019s Big Apple efforts in a new report.<\/p>\n \u201cThis (the going concern language) may be resolved soon as BALY pursues financing for its NY project, but it is not a good look and is rarely seen across our coverage,\u201d observes the analyst. \u201cDepending on terms, a resolution could drive some recovery following the sell-off, but we remain Hold-rated given ongoing liquidity, project delays, and international risks.\u201d<\/p>\n Rhode Island-based Bally\u2019s has already allocated $800 million to the Bronx project on which construction hasn\u2019t started, but the word on Wall Street is that the company needs at least another $500 million to move things forward in the Bronx.<\/p>\n Bally\u2019s Exploring Financing Options<\/p>\n Analysts frequently express concern about Bally\u2019s acquisitive ways<\/a> and its frequent financing needs. Although the company is junk-rated, it\u2019s largely been successful in raising capital when needed. The operator is back at it in the hopes of fortifying its Bronx plans.<\/p>\n \u201cManagement reiterated a 2030 opening date for its Bronx development, noting that they are actively raising additional capital for construction,\u201d adds Jonas. \u201cIn July, a non-binding term sheet for a pre-construction loan was signed, and the company entered into a letter of intent (LOI) with a potential equity investor in August. We have in the past noted sizable investor interest in the Bronx project and think once completed financing for NY could help remove the \u2018going concern\u2019 language in the financials.\u201d<\/p>\n In recent days, analysts have opined about the gaming company\u2019s financing options, including equity and asset sales or debt financing.<\/p>\n Earlier this year, Gaming and Leisure Properties (NASDAQ: GLPI) \u2014 Bally\u2019s\u2019 primary landlord \u2014 said it has some interest in the Bronx integrated resort, but it\u2019s unlikely to act as the majority financier<\/a> for what is the operator\u2019s priciest project to date.<\/p>\n Speaking of GLPI\u2026<\/p>\n
