Commuters said trash is a common sight to see along the Livonia Bridge, which connects the neighborhood to Brownsville and provides access to the L and 3 trains. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s pretty dirty usually,\u201d said Ben Fiorica, a commuter. <\/p>\n
\u201c[It\u2019s] nasty,\u201d said Jerdene Stewart, another commuter. \u201cSometimes I say, \u2018Oh my God. They haven\u2019t cleaned this thing in months.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n
Brooklyn Council Member Chris Banks said he received complaints from the community and had to see it for himself.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was annoyed, frustrated,\u201d said Banks. <\/p>\n
So he posted a video to social media earlier this week, calling out the Department of Transportation, which is responsible for cleaning the walkway. <\/p>\n
Banks recorded another cellphone video on Wednesday, which showed overflowing trash cans and garbage on the ground along the railing. <\/p>\n
But a crew cleaned the area on Thursday shortly before News 12 arrived on scene. <\/p>\n
\u201cOh my God, it\u2019s clean,\u201d Stewart laughed. <\/p>\n
\u201cDOT finally did their job,\u201d said Banks. <\/p>\n
But Banks pointed out that this wasn\u2019t the first time. <\/p>\n
As News 12 reported, the same thing happened in April 2025. Banks said DOT agreed to schedule multiple cleanings each month. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe shouldn\u2019t have to get this type of news coverage to clean a bridge,\u201d said Banks. \u201cWe pay taxes. That\u2019s automatic.\u201d <\/p>\n
