Comedian\u00a0Bill Maher\u00a0took aim at what he portrayed as the Democratic Party\u2019s double standard on religion Friday, quipping that a candidate\u2019s public faith is welcome \u201cas long as that faith isn\u2019t Jewish.\u201d<\/p>\n
The segment aired after CNN anchor Dana Bash discussed Texas Democrat James Talarico\u2019s outspoken Christianity<\/a> during a segment on \u201cReal Time,\u201d saying he \u201cwears his faith on his sleeve\u201d in a way Talarico believes could help him.<\/p>\n \u201cWell, in the Democratic Party, as long as that faith isn\u2019t Jewish, you\u2019re good,\u201d Maher retorted.<\/p>\n \u201cWell, you said it.\u201d Bash replied.<\/p>\n Maher then interjected, \u201cYeah, I said it because it\u2019s true!\u201d<\/p>\n Pew Research Center<\/a>\u00a0polling shows 80% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents (80%) hold an unfavorable view of Israel, up sharply from 53% in 2022.<\/p>\n At the same time, 41% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents surveyed hold a negative view of the Jewish state.<\/p>\n Fifty-eight percent of those right-leaning voters have a positive view.\u00a0<\/p>\n Real Time with Bill Maher\/YouTube<\/p>\n Rep.
