The way the numbers tumble might leave Tyrone Tracy Jr. off the Giants roster. <\/p>\n

The third-year running back was guilty of one very poor play in each of the first two preseason games<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The head coach acknowledges that and also insists Tracy\u2019s bad and good must be scrutinized before a decision is made.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I don\u2019t think you say, \u2018Hey, a bad play or even two bad plays nullifies a whole career body of work,\u2019 so to speak,\u201d John Harbaugh said Sunday. \u201cAnd even in the game, he played well. He had numerous good runs, catches, pass protection pickups were good, but he had the one play that\u2019s the one thing you don\u2019t want to have as a running back. And in the last two games, he\u2019s had two things you don\u2019t want to have.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cone play\u2019\u2019 on the very negative side in Saturday\u2019s 26-3 preseason victory over the Dolphins was an unforced fumble on the Miami 10-yard line late in the first quarter. <\/p>\n

In the preseason-opening loss to the Vikings, Tracy completely whiffed picking up a blitz, leading to Jaxson Dart taking a huge hit that sent him into the medical tent for observation.<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody feels worse about it than he does,\u201d Harbaugh said of the two gaffes. \u201cI mean, he\u2019s a very conscientious, very determined guy. It matters a lot to him, so he\u2019s beating himself up. But the rest of the plays were all good. They were all pluses. So, you don\u2019t hold it against him. At the same time, you understand how valuable and important those things are to your football team, and he knows as well. So, it\u2019s just a balancing act that way.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an ongoing pecking order. It\u2019s ongoing right now. It\u2019s still to be determined over the course of the next week to see exactly where it shakes out, and we\u2019ll keep working at it.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Cam Skattebo, Devin Singletary and newly signed veteran Najee Harris<\/a> all ahead of him, Tracy faces long odds to stick on the roster.<\/p>\n

It is rare to see a rookie destined to make the team stay on the field for all 81 snaps in a preseason game but that is what J.C. Davis did in Miami Gardens.<\/p>\n

He started and finished at left tackle. <\/p>\n

This was a plan by the coaching staff to see if Davis \u2014 a sixth-round pick from Illinois \u2014 could do it. <\/p>\n

He did it, another impressive step for the 22-year-old.<\/p>\n

\u201cGoing into the week, we decided to see \u2014 to put him into that situation to see how he handled it and also to help him grow into the ability to do it,\u201d Harbaugh said. \u201cCan you play a whole game at left tackle in the National Football League? Preseason game, albeit, but still a game. And he did it, he did it well. He had a lot of plus plays, he graded out very well and that\u2019s a big step in his development for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n

WR Malik Nabers, continuing his return from ACL surgery, might shed his red \u201cno-contact\u201d jersey this week, although Harbaugh said \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s a necessity,\u201d given that the season opener is still three weeks away. \u2026 Harbaugh said rookie CB Colton Hood (quad) will return to practice this week, as will rookie RG Sisi Mauigoa (stinger).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The way the numbers tumble might leave Tyrone Tracy Jr. off the Giants roster.
