Variety can report that the AMC Kips Bay 15, the movie theater chain\u2019s second-largest multiplex in Manhattan, will close at the end of the year. <\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cWe expect that AMC Kips Bay 15 will continue operating until the end of 2026, at which time the theatre will close following the property owner\u2019s decision to exercise its contractual right to terminate the theatre\u2019s lease before its scheduled expiration,\u201d an AMC spokesperson told Variety.<\/p>\n
\n\tWith its 15 screens, the Kips Bay location has been beloved by locals for its wider range of films and its towering Imax screen. It also provides an alternative for midtown fans who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the Empire 25 location near Times Square and the 34th Street 14 outside Madison Square Garden. In addition to those, the closure of Kips Bay leaves the 19th Street 6, Village 7, Lincoln Square 13, Orpheum 7, 84th Street 6 and Magic Johnson Harlem 9 locations left in Manhattan. <\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cSince its opening in 1999, the theatre has been an important part of the Kips Bay community and surrounding neighborhoods, providing guests with a place to enjoy the magic of the movies together. AMC took over operations of AMC Kips Bay 15 in 2006, and we are immensely grateful to our guests for their loyalty and support throughout the years,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cDetails are still being finalized, and a formal closure date will be announced in the coming months.
