Matchaful<\/a>, the matcha tea local chain that opened its first permanent brick-and-mortar on Canal in 2019 (though founded as a pop-up at Smorgasburg in 2012), will soft open today, August 25, on Greenwich and North Moore in Independence Plaza.<\/p>\n

They have been working on the space for almost a year, but not by choice! \u201cIt\u2019s been a tough road,\u201d founder Hannah Habes said. (That\u2019s her above with two of her boys, who were there to \u201chelp\u201d set up.) \u201cBut the space is so nice \u2014 the light especially.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hannah closed the Canal location in 2023, but she now has seven other locations in the city \u2014 the vision was always a local chain \u2014 including one on Prince and Sullivan. But they still had some original customers from Canal Street who wouldn\u2019t migrate up to Soho so they had way Downtown in their sights. \u201cWe\u2019ve been looking for a space in Tribeca for a long time and we finally found a place we love,\u201d Hannah said.<\/p>\n

They will debut a kids menu on September 10 and there is a new Tribeca Tropic matcha \u2014 ceremonial-grade matcha, passionfruit puree, Madagascar vanilla bean, tocos, maple and coconut milk.<\/p>\n
