Benitez had been wanted since Wednesday when he allegedly opened fire in Sunset Park.\n<\/p>\n<p>Photo by Ramy Mahmoud<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Police arrested a man Tuesday who allegedly opened fire on a <a href=\"https:\/\/amny.com\/brooklyn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Brooklyn<\/a> street last week and injured a beloved dog.\n<\/p>\n<p>According to police sources, the <a href=\"https:\/\/nyc.gov\/nypd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NYPD Warrant Squad<\/a> cuffed 29-year-old Adrian Benitez at his home on Aug. 25. Benitez had been wanted since Wednesday when he allegedly opened fire in Sunset Park.Photo by Ramy Mahmoud<\/p>\n<p>Sources say the shooting unfolded at around 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 19\u00a0 in front of 218 31st St. near Green-Wood Cemetery. Benitez\u2019s girlfriend reportedly texted him that a man was following her.<\/p>\n<p>When he arrived, he allegedly saw an individual near his partner and opened fire.\n<\/p>\n<p>The bullet missed its target and instead struck a 7-year-old female dog named Honey in the leg as the pooch walked with her owner. The pup was immediately rushed to a vet and was listed in stable condition.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Benitez fled the scene following the shooting.\n<\/p>\n<p>Detectives took Benitez out of the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nypd72pct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">72nd Precinct<\/a> in handcuffs on Tuesday morning to face a judge, but he did not answer reporters\u2019 questions about the alleged shooting.<\/p>\n<p>He has been charged with attempted murder, three counts of assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and aggravated cruelty to animals.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-137866073\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/DSC_7065.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"5392\" height=\"3592\" title=\"Brooklyn gunman arrested for shooting dog during walk with owner 4\"  \/>According to police sources, the NYPD Warrant Squad cuffed 29-year-old Adrian Benitez at his home on Aug. 25.
