It\u2019s a night they\u2019ll never forget. <\/p>\n

A bride and groom \u2014 and dozens of their guests \u2014 were left bedridden after food catered by a bougie Brooklyn hotel at their wedding reception was found tainted with the norovirus, a new lawsuit claims.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Michael Ahern and his wife shelled out $30,000 to hold their reception at The Box House, a venue in Greenpoint, and ended up with \u201crepeated episodes of vomiting and diarrhea,\u201d the Independent reported<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Their nuptials were ruined by norovirus \u2013 a highly-contagious stomach bug that triggers sudden, severe vomiting and diarrhea \u2013 which had contaminated the spread, according to court papers.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead of beginning their marriage by celebrating with family and friends \u2026 [they] spent the days following their wedding suffering from the debilitating effects of the norovirus outbreak caused by food served at their reception,\u201d the lawsuit alleges. <\/p>\n

Ahern and his wife tested positive for the virus after submitting stool samples to authorities, court papers said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But it wasn\u2019t just them. Thirty of the 112 guests who attended the Nov. 30, 2024, wedding reception also allegedly fell ill with similar symptoms \u2013 and all had eaten either prosciutto, macaroni-and-cheese croquettes or a \u201cseasonal crumble\u201d dessert, the lawsuit said.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for The Box House told the outlet they were \u201csorry guests got sick after this wedding\u201d and had retrained staff on cleanliness standards.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was meant to be one of the best nights of their lives and it wasn\u2019t, and we understand why that still stings,\u201d the spokesperson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The suit also alleges that 30 of the 112 guests who attended the wedding reception fell ill with norovirus-like symptoms. Facebook\/The Box House Hotel<\/p>\n

Norovirus was spreading all throughout the city at the time, according to the spokesperson, who claimed the party had brought in some of their own food from outside the venue.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A city Department of Health report found that one employee at the Brooklyn Lantern \u2013 the hotel\u2019s on-site restaurant \u2013 had tested positive for norovirus at the time.<\/p>\n

However, the report said the employee hadn\u2019t prepared any of the dishes that allegedly sickened the Aherns\u2019 guests.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The report concluded that \u201cspecific food vehicles as a mode of transmission remain undetermined for this outbreak.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
