New York Attorney General Letitia James on Wednesday vowed to fight President Trump\u2019s plan to restrict mail-in voting<\/a> by ordering the post office not to deliver ballots to voters in some Democratic-led states.<\/p>\n

After the Supreme Court put on hold a federal judge\u2019s previous ruling that blocked Trump\u2019s move,<\/a> James decried the decision and vowed to keep fighting to prevent the feds from interfering in states\u2019 right to administer their elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy (fellow) Democratic attorneys general will continue to challenge this rule, because this rule will create nothing but chaos and confusion,\u201d James told MSNOW.\u00a0 \u201d It\u2019s in the Constitution. States have the power and the duty and the responsibility to administer elections, not the president and definitely not the postal system.\u201d<\/p>\n

James said Trump and his Republican allies in Congress are hoping to suppress votes in Democratic states<\/a> by sowing confusion about the legality and accuracy of mail-in voting.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndividuals, particularly those in the White House, believe that they cannot run on their record, and, therefore, they have to steal this election,\u201d she said. \u201cThis is nothing more than an attempt to suppress the right to vote.\u201d<\/p>\n

James and attorneys general of several Democratic states filed a new version of their suit on Monday after the Supreme Court blocked an appeals court ruling that had barred Trump or the U.S. Postal Service from interfering with mail-in voting. U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani Wednesday responded by bowing to the highest court and lifted her ruling for now.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear when any further ruling may take place, but the first states start sending out mail ballots in about two weeks.<\/p>\n

The conservative-led Supreme Court ruled on a technicality that voters have not yet suffered any harm<\/a> from the planned action, so the suit is not yet ripe to be heard.<\/p>\n

But liberal justices countered that by the time anyone is harmed by not being able to vote by mail, it could be too late to give them that chance before the midterm elections.<\/p>\n

Trump has declared war on mail-in voting, which he says favors Democrats and is riddled with fraud<\/a>. He has voted by mail repeatedly in Florida elections even when he has been in the Sunshine State on Election Day.<\/p>\n

He ordered federal agencies to compile lists of eligible voters in every state. The USPS would refuse to send ballots<\/a> to anyone not on the list.<\/p>\n

Democratic states say the move is impractical, unfair and interferes with their constitutional responsibility<\/a> to run elections.<\/p>\n

Democrats fear the move could discourage voters from voting early or could be used after the fact to cast doubt on the validity of the results.<\/p>\n
