Tectonic Theater Project<\/a>‘s newest documentary play,\u00a0Here There Are Blueberries<\/a>, has announced a 10-week\u00a0limited engagement on Broadway.\u00a0The new play from the creators of The Laramie Project will begin previews November 2 at the Barrymore Theatre in a co-production with La Jolla Playhouse<\/a>. Opening night is set for November 9.<\/p>\n

The play\u00a0details the real-life discovery of a book of Nazi photographs, which showed Nazi officers at a resort\u00a0during World War II\u2014a resort that was located next to a concentration camp.\u00a0Mois\u00e9s Kaufman<\/a> and Amanda Gronich<\/a> co-created the work, which was a\u00a0finalist for the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and winner of the 2025 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play. Casting for the work will be announced at a later date.<\/p>\n

Says Kaufman and Tectonic Theater Project Executive Director in a statement:\u00a0\u201cFor Tectonic Theater Project, bringing Here There Are Blueberries to Broadway is the culmination of a remarkable journey. These photographs hold a mirror up to our humanity in the most intimate and unsettling way. We have to look at them\u2014not to understand the people in the pictures, but to better understand ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Here There Are Blueberries premiered in 2022 at La Jolla Playhouse in California. It then subsequently ran Off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop<\/a>, before embarking on an international tour.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to bring this extraordinary new play to the Barrymore Theatre,\u201d said producers Brian and Dayna Lee<\/a> in a statement. \u201cThis is a story rooted in history, but it is not a story safely confined to the past. At a moment when history itself is increasingly denied, distorted, or erased, Here There Are Blueberries reveals how ordinary people become complicit, and why remembering history is a vital responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

The play will feature scenic design by Derek McLane<\/a>, costume design by Dede Ayite<\/a>, lighting design by David Lander<\/a>, sound design by Bobby McElver<\/a>, projection design by David Bengali<\/a>, casting by Stephanie Yankwitt<\/a>, and dramaturgy by Amy Marie Seidel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Here There Are Blueberries is produced by Tectonic Theater Project, led by founder Kaufman, Brian and Dayna Lee, Bruce Roberts<\/a>, Sue Vaccaro<\/a>, & Ricky Stevens<\/a>, and executive producer 101 Productions, Ltd.<\/a> The general manager is Evan Bernardin Productions<\/a> with production management by Sightline Productions<\/a>. Here There Are Blueberries is a co-production with La Jolla Playhouse and is produced in association with Michael Hormel<\/a> and Midnight Theatricals<\/a>. The play was devised by Scott Barrow<\/a>, Amy Marie Seidel, Frances Uku<\/a>, Grant James Varjas<\/a>, and the members of Tectonic Theater Project.<\/p>\n
