NEW YORK (WABC) — Protesters staged a ‘die-in’ at City Hall Park on Wednesday night after four New Yorkers were killed in separate hit-and-run crashes in a span of five days.<\/p>\n
Three cyclists and one pedestrian were killed last week in four different boroughs.<\/p>\n
Advocates say the deaths underscore the need for a new citywide plan to make streets safer.<\/p>\n
On August 18, Paulina Tee Choc, 29, was hit and killed by a pickup truck while riding an e-bike in Brooklyn, according to police.<\/p>\n
Also on August 18, Angelo Camara, 51, was hit and killed while riding a bike by a fleeing BMW driver in the Bronx, police said.<\/p>\n
On August 20, Mamadou Diallo, 40, was hit and killed while riding a bike by another fleeing BMW driver in Brooklyn, police said.<\/p>\n
On August 23, Destiny Murrell, 22, was hit and killed by a fleeing vehicle while in the crosswalk in the West Village, police said.<\/p>\n
Activists say cyclist fatalities are up significantly compared to this time last year.<\/p>\n
