This year\u2019s Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree made its debut in Midtown Saturday morning.<\/p>\n
Many New Yorkers say it\u2019s not the holiday season until the Rockefeller tree is in town. The 11-ton, 75-foot-talll Norway Spruce will be on display for the next few weeks.<\/p>\n
The tree was raised off its 100-foot-long trailer, suspended in midair, and a stake was hammered into its base so it could stand upright.<\/p>\n
When lit, it will be adorned with more than 50,000 multicolored LED lights and about five miles of wire. At the top, the tree will be crowned with a 9-foot, 900-pound Swarovski star covered in 3 million crystals.<\/p>\n
The tree was cut down in East Greenbush, New York \u2014 a town outside of Albany \u2014 earlier this week.<\/p>\n
Judy Ross, the donor of the tree, told NY1 what it\u2019s been like to see her family\u2019s tree selected for such a monumental occasion.<\/p>\n
\u201cChristmas is really special to us and my family. It\u2019s our favorite time of the year. I took my son to the tree last year with some family and friends. We get to do that on a much grander scale this year. I am just excited we get to share our family tree with the world,\u201d Ross said.<\/p>\n
