Uber-exclusive New York nightclub Basement \u2014 a subterranean Berlin-inspired techno mecca in Maspeth, Queens \u2014 has become notorious for denying visitors who fail its mysterious \u201cvibe check,\u201d<\/a> among other strict vetting processes. <\/p>\n Now, they\u2019re placing another type of ubiquitous club-goer on the blacklist\u2013 revelers wearing smart glasses.<\/p>\n \u201cAnyone bringing smart glasses into the venue, whether wearing them or carrying them in a bag, will be asked to leave and may be permanently banned,\u201d the techno hotspot announced in a Thursday Instagram post.<\/a> <\/p>\n \u201cOur no photo\/no video policy exists to protect the privacy, safety and freedom of everyone on our dance floor. Devices that allow discreet recording are incompatible with that policy.\u201d<\/p>\n The Post reached out to Basement for comment regarding the policy, which sheds light on just how controversial the tech has become.<\/p>\n The Basement nightclub in Queens is known for turning down people who don\u2019t pass its mysterious \u201cvibe check.\u201d<\/p>\n Smart glasses come equipped with smartphone-like hardware that allows them to record POV video and photos, among other functions. <\/p>\n As this tech is often hard to spot, smart glasses wearers can deploy them fairly inconspicuously, raising concerns that they can be used to film people without their consent.<\/p>\n Instagram viewers seemed to be overwhelmingly on board with the ban on these tech specs.<\/p>\n \u201cKeep the dance floor private, present, and phone-free,\u201d declared one commenter.<\/p>\n \u201cIntroduce a magnetization policy,\u201d suggested another. \u201cJust scan people\u2019s glasses with a magnet at their own risk lol.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEvery venue should have this policy.
