{"id":333248,"date":"2026-08-30T16:44:22","date_gmt":"2026-08-30T16:44:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/333248\/"},"modified":"2026-08-30T16:44:22","modified_gmt":"2026-08-30T16:44:22","slug":"green-thumb-brute-attacks-manhattan-straphanger-with-gardening-tool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/333248\/","title":{"rendered":"Green-thumb brute attacks Manhattan straphanger with gardening tool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img width=\"634\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1-Precinct-TD-2-Assault-RMA-2226-26.jpg\" class=\"crop-center wp-post-image\" alt=\"man wearing black tank top and blue hat\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"   title=\"Green-thumb brute attacks Manhattan straphanger with gardening tool 1\"\/>\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Police are searching for this suspect who allegedly assaulted a straphanger on a Manhattan train. <\/p>\n<p>NYPD<\/p>\n<p>Police in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amny.com\/news\/activists-manhattan-ice-agent-vehicles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Lower Manhattan<\/a> are searching for a suspect who allegedly used a long-handled gardening tool to assault a fellow straphanger on board an A\/C train earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>According to law enforcement sources, the incident occurred in the vicinity of Fulton Street and Nassau Street on Aug. 9 at around 7:30 p.m. Authorities said the green-thumbed suspect swung the yard implement at the 49-year-old victim, striking him in the hand and legs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The suspect then fled the train immediately in an unknown direction, while the victim sustained minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear right now what led to the assault, but police on Sunday released surveillance photos of the suspect, who remains on the lam. He is described as having a dark complexion, approximately 30 years of age, 6 feet tall, with an athletic build, short black hair, and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black tank top, black pants, a blue baseball cap and a silver necklace.<\/p>\n<p>So far, no arrests have been made, but the investigation remains ongoing.\n<\/p>\n<p>The incident was reported to Transit District 2 and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/assets\/nypd\/downloads\/pdf\/crime_statistics\/cs-en-us-001pct.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">1st Precinct<\/a>, which reported a 28% increase in felony assaults year-to-date, increasing from 100 last year to 128 in 2026 through Aug. 23. Meanwhile, total crime for the precinct is on a downward trend, with a 2% year-to-date decrease compared to the same period in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information regarding the incident or the suspect\u2019s whereabouts can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (for Spanish, dial 888-57-PISTA).
