Authorities across the US are being urged to boost police patrols around Jewish schools and synagogues<\/a> ahead of the Jewish High Holy Days, which begin Sept. 11, the 25th anniversary of the 2001 terror attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery Jewish child deserves access to a safe place to learn, and every individual deserves to worship in peace,\u201d said Sydney Altfield, CEO of the Teach Coalition, a New York-based group that operates in seven states.<\/p>\n

\u201cJewish day schools and houses of worship have increasingly become targets.\u201d <\/p>\n

Antisemitic hate crimes accounted for nearly 63% of religion-based hate crimes nationwide in 2025 \u2014 the third highest number of anti-Jewish hate crimes ever recorded in federal crime data, according to an Anti-Defamation League analysis.<\/p>\n

Hate crimes surged 9.4%.in New York City through July of this year compared to the same period in 2025 \u2013 with more than half of the incidents targeting Jewish New Yorkers<\/a> despite otherwise historic lows for murders and shootings, NYPD stats showed.<\/p>\n

Some Jewish leaders blamed Mayor Zohran Mamdani, an outspoken critic of Israel who has accused the Jewish nation of committing a \u201cgenocide\u201d during the war in Gaza and also called for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The mayor has said he has zero tolerance for Jew hatred.<\/p>\n

The alarming rise of antisemitism and anti-Jewish hate crimes across America has the Jewish community on edge ahead of the Jewish High Holy Days. <\/p>\n

The High Holy Days are traditionally a time when the Jewish community faces heightened security concerns \u2014 and that fear is exacerbated this year as the beginning of Rosh Hashanah marks the 25th anniversary of the tragic terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.<\/p>\n

The Jewish holidays include Rosh Hashanah on Sept. 11, Yom Kippur on Sept. 20 and Sukkot on Sept. 25.<\/p>\n

The New York City metropolitan region has the largest Jewish population outside of Israel.<\/p>\n

Teach Coalition, a project of the Orthodox Union, operates in seven states: New York, New Jersey, Florida, Pennsylvania, Maryland, California and Nevada.<\/p>\n

Typically, the NYPD increases its patrols around Jewish institutions during the High Holy Days, as it did earlier this year during the Jewish holiday of Purim.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NYPD will have a security briefing as we get closer to the holidays,\u201d an NYPD rep told The Post on Sunday. \u201cAnd yes, in prior years, we have increased patrols during this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gov. Kathy Hochul, while addressing the Central Synagogue in Manhattan on Friday, also pledged to boost security for synagogues and Jewish communities across the state ahead of the holy days.<\/p>\n

A bigoted madman recently unleashed a horrific, antisemitic assault at the place of worship.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you need more money, if you need more protection, I will send the New York State Police here,\u201d Hochul said, the Jerusalem Post reported<\/a>. \u201cWe will fortify this place not only now but certainly ahead of the approaching High Holidays.\u201d<\/p>\n
