In honor of America’s 250th birthday, this year’s maze was shaped like the Statue of Liberty’s torch.

“We are commemorating America’s 250th anniversary as a founding nation, so the maze is carved in the pattern and shape of the Lady Liberty torch, which we thought was very thematic and emblematic of liberty, resilience, freedom, independence, all of those great things,” Queens County Farm Museum Executive Director David Hughes said. “We kind of frame [Corn Fest] around history, corn and how cultures intersect with corn. It’s the end of the summer. It’s the beginning of the harvest season. So it’s a kind of harvest summer cultural festival.”

In addition to exploring the 3-acre maze, attendees enjoyed various activities, games and food. Assemblymember Edward Braunstein and Council Member Linda Lee were also on hand to celebrate Corn Fest.

“[Corn Fest] is a great opportunity for us here in Queens. You don’t have to go to Long Island, you don’t have to go upstate to celebrate the fall,” Braunstein said. “You could come right here to Queens Farm and celebrate pumpkin picking and corn maze and all that.”

“I will say it is an honor to partner with David [Hughes] and the board members of the Queens Farm because this is such a gem, which is why between our office, the borough president, the mayor’s office, we put in close to $65 million into restoring the education center, the barn, all the facilities, because we know how important it is to keep this amazing gem that we have right here in New York City,” Lee said.”

Clues, puzzles and fun facts will help in the completion of a board game that will reveal to them the best maze route. The maze of corn stalks culminates in Victory Bridge, where those who conquer the maze can celebrate with a scenic overlook. The Amazing Maize Maze will remain open to visitors every Saturday and Sunday through Nov. 1.

Explorers of the maze have flags equipped to ensure they are visible at all times and able to communicate with the Mazemasters.

Those on hand for Corn Fest had a unique opportunity to experience the charm and history of the Queens County Farm Museum as they enjoyed all things corn.

This celebration also kicked off the farm’s fall event season. Other planned fall events include Maze by Moonlight, wherein people can explore the maze under the night sky, as well as a pumpkin patch, the Queens Agricultural Fair and Halloween on the Farm.

The Queens County Farm Museum in Floral Park held its annual Corn Fest celebration, while also commemorating the…

[37
125546,125547,9,24,63,122,19539,124,123
post-333914","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-queens","tag-amazing-maize-maze","tag-corn-fest","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-nyc","tag-queens","tag-queens-county-farm-museum","tag-queens-headlines","tag-queens-news
["GET
