ALBANY \u2014\u00a0State University of New York Chancellor John B. King Jr. today\u00a0visited the Great New York State\u00a0Fair\u00a0on Student Youth Day.\u00a0For the first\u00a0time, current SUNY students with a valid student ID card or incoming SUNY students with an admission letter\u00a0are\u00a0receiving\u00a0free admission<\/a>\u00a0on Student Youth Day.\u00a0SUNY campuses are\u00a0also\u00a0showcasing\u00a0agriculture, battery technologies, healthcare, and more.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a pleasure to see so many SUNY students and campuses taking part this year to celebrate our great state,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0SUNY Chancellor King.\u00a0\u201cThe State Fair\u00a0gives communities throughout the state\u00a0opportunities to have fun in the\u00a0sun\u00a0and\u00a0to learn about New York\u2019s agricultural leadership<\/a> and history.\u00a0SUNY is proud to continue to partner with the Great New York State\u00a0Fair\u00a0and have our campuses participate and support this program.\u201d<\/p>\n

The SUNY Board of Trustees said,\u00a0\u201cSUNY is proud to join\u00a0The Great New York State Fair\u00a0to bring\u00a0together people from\u00a0all over\u00a0New York\u00a0for\u00a0an\u00a0opportunity to celebrate and learn about our state.\u00a0We thank\u00a0Governor Hochul for providing opportunities for\u00a0SUNY students to\u00a0attend\u00a0The Great New York State\u00a0Fair\u00a0for free\u00a0and learn\u00a0more\u00a0about what New York has to offer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since 1841, the New York State Fair has been a celebration of agricultural heritage and community, filled with performances, exhibits, competitions, food, and family friendly fun.\u00a0SUNY\u00a0has a\u00a0long-standing connection with the Great New York State Fair, with\u00a0campuses regularly\u00a0participating\u00a0with booths, farm animals and equipment,\u00a0cutting edge\u00a0research projects, and chances to learn more about opportunities on campus.<\/p>\n

During his visit,\u00a0Chancellor King highlighted SUNY campuses\u00a0participating\u00a0in the\u00a02026 Great New York State Fair including:<\/p>\n

The\u00a0State University of New York at\u00a0Binghamton\u00a0is\u00a0hosting\u00a0a booth\u00a0showcasing\u00a0the work of the National Science Foundation Energy Storage Engine to advance the development of battery technologies. SUNY Cobleskill Ag & Tech\u00a0is hosting\u00a0an Agriculture Career Day, featuring\u00a0an electrical\u00a0circuit building activity, and tractors to promote the JD Tech program. SUNY Cobleskill Ag & Tech\u00a0is\u00a0also\u00a0hosting\u00a0a daily display in the Future Farmers of America Tent with program literature and machinery components. SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF)\u00a0is\u00a0hosting hands-on STEM activities from August 26 through September 4 on topics including engineering, chemistry, invasive species, and the American chestnut tree restoration project. SUNY College of Optometry, in partnership with\u00a0SUNY Upstate Medical University, will conduct vision screenings on Sept. 2, to highlight the new SUNY Optometry extension campus at SUNY Upstate, which opens in 2027. SUNY Upstate Medical University\u2019s Mobile Mammography Van will provide screenings at the fair on Sept. 2 and 3 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. SUNY\u00a0Upstate\u2019s\u00a0She Matters breast cancer screening support program will also be meeting at the same times, as well as its Pathway (Promoting Access to Training in Healthcare) program that will highlight ways the campus can help prepare individuals for careers in medicine. The campus will also be staffing the infirmary at the fair. <\/p>\n
