Flo Rida rolled into Syracuse on Sunday, August 30, with his signature charisma, a stacked setlist, and enough energy to turn the fairgrounds into one massive party.

From the moment Flo Rida hit the Suburban Park stage, there was little time wasted getting the night moving. Backed by his crew, the Miami rapper came out with the kind of energy that has defined his live shows for years, immediately getting the crowd involved. Kicking things off with “In The Ayer,” Flo Rida set the tone for what was come. Fans of all ages quickly got a taste of what his show was all about.

That energy carried straight into “Where Them Girls At,” where Flo Rida took the crowd interaction up another level. Armed with bottles of champagne, he soaked the first several rows before grabbing a bouquet of roses and began handing them out to women along the the barricade. He made it clear early on that fans weren’t just there to watch the show, they were going to be a part of it.

Rather than putting distance between himself and the audience, Flo Rida spent much of the night finding ways to bring them directly into the performance, at one point inviting dozens of fans celebrating their birthdays onstage to join him. Within moments, the stage was packed with fans dancing along side Flo Rida and his crew as the celebration continued. Smiles, phones, and hands filled the stage as those lucky enough to be chosen got a chance to experience the show from a completely different view. It was another moment that showed just how much Flo Rida wanted the night to feel like a party everyone was invited to.

Between songs, Flo Rida frequently stopped to address the crowd, hyping them up and getting everyone to cheer, “Ain’t no party like a Syracuse party!” He continuously thanked the fans for having him in Syracuse and gave a special shoutout to the military, law enforcement, and first responders. He kept things moving along despite the crowd conversations. Just when he made everyone think things were about to slow down, the opening notes of “Low” ripped throughout Suburban Park and thousands of fans completely lost their minds. Kids stood on the bleachers jumping and dancing. Longtime fans threw their hands in the air and screamed along. Even security couldn’t resist taking a break from their duties to bust a move. It was loud, wild, and completely out of control in the best possible way.

From there, he kept things rolling with hits like “Boom, Shake, Drop,” “Club Can’t Handle Me,” and “Whistle,” barely giving the crowd a chance to catch their breath between songs. Every time the fans thought they knew what was coming next, another familiar beat sent them right back into a frenzy. “I’m going to make my way into the crowd,” he said. “I want everyone to please be careful and not get hurt.” His genuine concern for the safety and well-being of the fans added another layer to his larger-than-life personality, showing that underneath all the energy and showmanship was an artist who truly cared about the people who came to see him.

Flo Rida stepped off the stage and made good on his promise, working his way into the sea of fans as phones shot into the air around him. Surrounded on every side, he continued performing without missing a beat, turning what could have been just another song into one of the most personal moments of the night. As he made his way back to the stage, excitement remained high with plenty more hits still to come. Tracks like “GDFR,” “Wild Ones,” and “My House” kept the momentum going as both Flo Rida and the fans showed no signs of slowing down. Flo Rida wasn’t done creating memories for the fans just yet. The personal touches continued when he took off one of his sneakers, signed it onstage, and handed it to a lucky fan in the crowd.

As each recognizable hit rolled through the park, it began to feel like the night was finally winding down, but the surprises weren’t over yet. Flo Rida made his way back into the crowd once again, this time climbing to the top of the State Police Tower and continuing to perform high above the fans below. The unexpected move sent another wave of excitement through Suburban Park and gave the crowd one more unforgettable moment. He instructed the crew to start playing “Low” one more time and once again, thousands of fans exploded with excitement all over again. The night seemed never-ending, but in a wildly chaotic way.

Flo Rida then took a moment to explain why his shows are so up close and personal, telling the crowd that none of his success would have been possible without the fans. He pointed to the more than 100 million records he has sold worldwide since 2007 as proof of just how far that support has carried him.

From high above the crowd, Flo Rida wrapped up the night with “I Cry” before giving fans a taste of his newest single, “Vacation (Anywhere You Wanna Go),” released earlier this month with Sage the Gemini. He even worked in Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons’ classic “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night),” helping bring the wild final stretch of the night to close.

Flo Rida’s music may have come before some of the youngest fans in the crowd were even born, but for one night, none of that seemed to matter. He had a way of making everyone feel welcomed and included, whether it was the kids dancing on the bleachers, the fans he connected with throughout the show, or those lucky enough to celebrate their birthdays right beside him onstage. Years from now, they may not remember every song that was played or every detail of the night, but they’ll remember being able to say they celebrated a birthday onstage with Flo Rida, danced alongside thousands of strangers, and felt like they were part of something bigger than themselves. For a performer with a career built on massive hits and larger-than-life moments, his greatest accomplishment at The Great New York State Fair may have been something much simpler: making everyone feel like they belonged.

Suburban Park concerts at The Great New York State Fair continue with Ashanti on Monday, August 30.
