Immigration and Customs Enforcement <\/a>(ICE) snared nearly 2,200 illegal migrants \u2014 including convicted murderers, rapists and drug traffickers \u2014 in a monthlong sweep across New York state, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Agents nabbed 2,197 people between July 27 and Aug. 29 as part of \u201cOperation Rotten Apple\u201d<\/a> \u2014 which Mullin noted was conducted \u201cwith no help\u201d from either Mayor Zohran Mamdani or Gov. Kathy Hochul.<\/p>\n

\u201cOperation Rotten Apple did what sanctuary politicians in New York City and the state of New York refuse to do: made the Empire State safer,\u201d Mullin said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"NearlyNearly 2,200 people were arrested in the state-wide roundup, DHS said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe won\u2019t let sanctuary politicians stand in our way. If you\u2019re a state or local politician, your best bet is to cooperate with us so we can all make America safe again,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Those arrested include Bogdan Detrovich Gren, a Ukrainian national in the US illegally with criminal convictions for kidnapping, abduction resulting in death, criminal possession of a weapon, and murder, according to DHS.<\/p>\n

Andreas Bernal Chiquito, an illegal migrant\u00a0 from Colombia, has past arrests for sexual conduct against a child and injuring a child less than 17.<\/p>\n

Also taken into custody was Palvinder Singh, an illegal migrant from India who was convicted of rape in Germany; and Carlos Mendez-Acosta, a Venezuelan migrant convicted of rape, according to the feds.<\/p>\n

Mamdani signed an executive order<\/a> shortly after he assumed office in January reinforcing sanctuary protections against what he called \u201cabusive immigration enforcement\u201d by the Trump administration.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hizzoner has since passed additional legislation <\/a>making it harder for local law enforcement to cooperate<\/a> with President Trump\u2019s illegal immigration crackdown.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Up in Albany, Hochul successfully pushed <\/a>through legislation preventing state cops from partnering with federal immigration authorities, and barring ICE agents from most public places like hospitals and parks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to DHS, those \u201cradical sanctuary policies\u201d resulted in more than 13,000 criminal aliens back onto New York streets.<\/p>\n

\u201cDemocratic politicians in New York and elsewhere say that they care about public safety, but won\u2019t let immigration law enforcement officers into their jails to take criminals into custody, instead they release them to their streets,\u201d Trump administration border czar Tom Homan said.<\/p>\n
