A pair of supertankers carrying Saudi oil were struck back-to-back by projectiles while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz <\/a>overnight, maritime analysts said. <\/p>\n

The tankers, each carrying 2 million barrels of crude from the Juaymah terminal, were hit while sailing near the Omani coast, where Iran has regularly attacked vessels<\/a> that are bypassing its claim to the Strait, according to the Kpler and Marist tracking firms.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe near-simultaneous incidents represent a further escalation in the threat environment within \u200bthe Omani corridor,\u201d Marist warned.<\/p>\n

The Saudi Arabian-flagged Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) Sidr was the first ship hit while attempting to make the crossing, with the\u00a0\u200bLiberian-flagged VLCC Senegal \u2060Prosperity hit just minutes later by three projectiles, according to Marist. <\/p>\n

All crew members aboard both ships were reported safe. <\/p>\n

Ships have been sneaking through the Strait of Hormuz by traveling near the Omani coast nightly under American escorts, much to the ire of the Islamic republic, which has repeatedly fired missiles and drones at the vessels. <\/p>\n

The latest outburst in the critical oil passageway caused crude contracts to shoot up by more than 2% on Tuesday, with the Brent international benchmark hitting $92 a barrel.<\/p>\n

The regime reiterated its claim to the Strait in the latest round of tit-for-tat strikes with the US, but Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian<\/a>\u00a0claimed Tuesday that Tehran would be willing to go back to the negotiating table with the US and hash out a peace deal. <\/p>\n

Pezeshkian, who was attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, said Iran would \u201cimmediately take reciprocal action\u201d if the US agreed to return to the terms of June\u2019s memorandum of understanding. <\/p>\n

President Trump, however, has rejected going back to the terms of the memorandum, with the US opting to inflict major economic pains on Iran until the regime buckles and surrenders. <\/p>\n

Trump also warned that the US would hit Iran \u201chard\u201d over its latest attacks in the Strait of Hormuz and against US allies in the region. <\/p>\n
