A Brooklyn man admitted to kidnapping seven commercial sex workers between 2022 and 2023, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.<\/p>\n
Chad Barclay, 33, pleaded guilty to sex trafficking charges in connection with the kidnapping of “Jan Doe #1,” who prosecutors say he raped, robbed and threatened. Barclay followed a similar pattern with the six other women.<\/p>\n
“Chad Barclay’s brutal and predatory actions inflicted profound harm on his victims and demonstrated a clear disregard for their safety and humanity,” said FBI Assistant Director in Charge Barnacle.<\/p>\n
According to court documents, Barclay met Jane Doe #1 through the online escort website “Eros,” and convinced her to cross state lines to come to his apartment on Sept. 13, 2022. Here, he paid the victim $1,500 in cash before forcing her to have sex with him, without using protection.<\/p>\n
After the assault, he went into her purse and took the $1,500 he had just paid her, as well as an additional $1,200, prosecutors say.<\/p>\n
Barclay told the victim that she “owed” him for working on his turf, court documents allege. He claimed he ran Brooklyn, was part of a Brooklyn gang and said all women in the borough worked for him and had to pay a “tax.”<\/p>\n
Prosecutors say Jane Doe #1 told Barclay she did not have any more money. He responded, “pay or you have to work for me or you die.”<\/p>\n
According to court documents, Barclay then threatened her life, claiming his “guys” outside would kill her if she tried to leave. He also told the victim that he knew where she lived and that she had a daughter before he took her cellphone, forced her to unlock it and went through its contents. She warned him that a friend had her location and would call the police if she didn’t reach out soon.<\/p>\n
Jane Doe #1 was then able to escape, go to the hospital and report Barclay to the authorities.<\/p>\n
Barclay now faces a minimum of 15 years in prison and a maximum of life behind bars when sentenced.<\/p>\n
