However, his career path took an unexpected turn.

“One of my friends at NYU really wanted to go to law school,” Vaygen said. “One day, we attended a career fair, and there were lawyers there talking about their field and how much money they were making. The experience won me over, but I still wanted to go into IT, my original plan, as I really liked computers.”

Later, the same friend was having trouble with the LSAT exam, and Vaygen tried to help him out.

“When I was at his house, I said to myself, ‘Let me try a few questions,’” Vaygen said. “There was a lot of logic and critical thinking involved, but I saw that I was doing fairly well. Ultimately, I took the LSAT myself, and I got a high enough score to get into law school. I later took the bar, passed it, and I ended up opening my own practice.”

He earned his law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in Russian literature from NYU, where he minored in history and computer science.

Vaygen, who currently lives in south Brooklyn, has built a legal career spanning more than 30 years, concentrating on real estate, business law, personal injury and international business matters.

Throughout his career, Vaygen has represented individuals and businesses in a broad range of legal matters while maintaining a private practice in Brooklyn. The building spans four stories plus a basement, with more than 14,000 gross square feet, with nearly 10,600 above ground. In April 2026, the association listed the property for $12 million. On July 9, the building was sold to Robin Damaghi through the entity Develv LLC.

Vaygen said the BBA is still searching for a new home. “We’re not looking to rush into anything.
