A massive investigation is underway after police officers<\/a> shot an allegedly knife-wielding man on the Brooklyn Bridge<\/a> early Friday morning, it was reported.<\/p>\n The police shooting happened at about 4:15 a.m. on Sept. 4 on the Manhattan side of the iconic span, above the corner of South and Dover streets.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n According to preliminary reports on the Citizen app<\/a>, NYPD officers confronted a knife-wielding man on the bridge while responding to a report of someone in need of assistance. The man then charged at the officers with a knife, leading one or several officers to open fire.\u00a0<\/p>\n The man\u2019s condition is not yet known, reports indicated. Police officials are expected to outline further details about the shooting at a press conference just before 9 a.m. Friday morning.\n<\/p>\n In the meantime, the Brooklyn Bridge had been shut down for much of the Friday morning commute; as of 8:35 a.m. Friday, police<\/a> reported that the bridge had been fully reopened in both directions.<\/p>\n It is the second police shooting this week.
